President’s Message:- 

I am happy to say that the Society for Promotion of Oil Palm Research and Development (SOPOPRAD) started with the inception of the erstwhile National Research Centre for Oil Palm presently knlown as Directorate of Oil Palm Research, Pedavegi. Since irrigated Oil Palm as a small holder’s crop is a totally new concept put forth in 90’s and both cultivation and research started simultaneously. This Society comprising of the Scientists, Oil Palm Growers, Processors, Development Officers could greately help for mutually understanding the problems ans solving the same through research and technolgy transfer.This concept worked well. More number of farmers could interacting the Scientists for the day-to-day problems in the Oil Plam cultivation. This Society could greately help through organising interface meetings, Two National confernces held in 2001 and 2007 could also help to disseminate the technology which resulted in increasing the productivity. Today the farmers and processors are very happy and the crop could spread to an area of about 3.0 lakh hectares in 11 states. However, the country has a potential to grow oil palm in about 2 million hectares in 18 states including the North-eastern states. The society is the only strong link to unite all and to promote oil palm cultivation and processing.

I, As the Founder of the society as well as the President would like to appeal to you all to extend the helping hands to strengthen the society with large number of members so that the soceity can serve better to promote Oil Palm in the country successfully.
